Topic: Health Agency Briefing on CMTF Guam Build-Up As of Friday, January 4, 2008
Overall Information: The hospital and public health are reporting progress in the Area Priorities in this week’s brief. The Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse and the Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities submitted no report of their progress as of 12 noon deadline today. Strengthening Workforce Capacity Through the assistance of the National Health Service Corps, Public Health has recently acquired a Nurse Practitioner who will be assisting in the healthcare centers. Application currently at A Through the IGIA, assistance will be needed from NHSC to recruit critical positions. Early impact recruitment assessment for public health and social services completed. Commenced 2nd tier recruitment involving senior services and child welfare. Capital Improvement Both the hospital and public health are putting FEMA dollars to work in hazard mitigation projects. Public health emergency operations center construction project has commenced; hospital renovation plans for front lobby and stairwell in progress. Public health and hospital earmarked to receive tobacco settlement dollars. Awaiting formal transmittal from GEDCA to proceed with renovation and construction plans with Southern Clinic and equipment for the hospital. Public health has completed CBDG grant fro half a million to cover final expenses for southern renovation. Needing final supporting documentation from Department of Land Management and Environmental Protection Agency Increasing Funding for Infrastructure and Services US Health & Human Services to provide health inventory to address matters related to this area of priority, hopefully by next week. GMH Consultant Jeff Wolfe may be instrumental toward advocating both GMH and Public Health issues, (and possibly DMHSA and DISID) with respect to Medicaid and MIP with federal government. Chair to obtain cost figures by next update. Regulation, Licensing and Insurance Public health completed licensing requirements for Nurse Practitioner; public health in RFP process for Medical Director. Public health immunization policy requiring contractor’s to ensure that worker’s are up to date is favorable; however, work continues to rule out if federal laws would prohibit this policy.
