MEETINGS:
The subcommittee held its monthly meeting on Aug. 12, Tuesday at 10am. (This is a deviation from the regular schedule due to the Chairman’s trip off island). o Topics discussed: Workforce housing, Guma Trankilidat, Housing Study The Chairman, Co‐Chairman and Nora Camacho met with members from Congresswoman Bordallo’s office; James Sablan, Kin Perez, Jed Bullock, and Paolo o Topics discussed: Status of Guma Trankilidat, Request for additional CDBG funding, Increase in Section 8 Vouchers, and the Low‐income Housing Tax Credits, and “rural development” population threshold. Increase Section 8 – Exploring possibility of creating a separate pool of Section 8 vouchers for the FAS citizens. Examining process to make use of unused Low‐income Housing Tax Credits Current threshold for “rural”, relative to population has been increased. This will reinstate Dededo as “rural”. UPDATES: Guam Comprehensive Housing Study 2008: Still in Appeal. GHURA has submitted the required Agency Report, which includes GHURA’s response. SAGAN BONITA – Affordable Housing Project: ‐ Original target to build 58 units, but two lots had to be used for a ponding basin and a park. Current target 56 units. ‐ Request for Bids announced, 6 bids were rec’d, all have been rejected. Bids have come in at a high cost, which affects the affordability of the homes. GHURA will issue a new RFB. Bids = cost per lot, for to lay down infrastructure, sidewalks, etc. ‐ $85,000‐ this is the cost without the house. (In the 90’s, the cost in the Asan project was at $11,000 per lot, in 2000. These figures do not include the house.) GUMA TRANKILIDAT – GHURA has full support from HUD and USDA. ‐ No contract has been executed. Processes need to be completed prior to execution of the contract. |
