June 18, 2008 – Meeting with Office of Sec. of Defense, Installation & Environment, Navy Audit Service:  GDOL/AHRD mgmt. and administrators met with officials to discuss Labor initiatives regarding Alien Labor and regulatory services being provided by GDOL.   The Director provided an overview of Guam’s Labor Market, Local/Regional Workforce Development strategies and regulatory compliance and partnerships with employers.

June 19, 2008: Conference call with US Department of Education and GDOL/AHRD:  A conference call between the Director GDOL and Jeanette Lim of US DOE was held to discuss possible partnerships between education and workforce development.  Ms. Lim provided an overview of the different programs under the oversight of USDOE within the region (Guam, CNMI, FSM) that could possibly be aligned with workforce development/education activities.  Ms. Lim would like to engage more and may possibly be visiting Guam sometime in September.

June 19, 2008 – Guam Registered Apprenticeship Program (GRAP) presentation, Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association (GHRA):  GDOL/AHRD Program Coordinator provided a presentation to GHRA membership on the rules and regulations of GRAP and the benefits to implementing an apprenticeship program as a private sector employer.  

June 20, 2008 – Conference Calls

    * 900 a.m. – Conference call between Applied Computer Training & Technology (ACT&T) and GDOL/AHRD took place at the request of ACT&T.  The training company provided an overview of their services and briefed on the discussions with Guam Police Department in possibly providing training for new and incumbent officers.  ACT&T is certified by the State of Hawaii and provides training.   ACT/T company currently provides Information Technology, Hospitality and Homeland Security education services in the State of Hawaii and works closely with Hawaii One Stop Centers, State Agencies and Federal Gov’t to provide services.

    * 11:30 a.m. Conference call with Lisa Katz took place to discuss the Regional Innovations Grant and proposed work plans as follows:
          o Regional Retreat & Strategic Plan
          o Data Plan and Capacity Building
          o Grant Accountability and TA Center
          o Web-based asset mapping
          o Sustainability and development map

Guam’s and the region’s Regional Workforce Development Council technical team (Guam, CNMI, FSM, Palau, RMI) will review the proposed workplans and target final submission to US DOL National Emergency Grant system is the week of June 23-27, 2008
